En un novedoso formato virtual, representantes de los proyectos de la “Iniciativa Internacional de Protección del Clima” (IKI) en México y sus contrapartes del gobierno mexicano intercambiaron conocimientos y crearon sinergias en el cuarto taller de intercambio realizado el jueves 19 de marzo de 2020.

Rodolfo Godínez, titular de la Unidad Coordinadora de Asuntos Internacionales (UCAI) de la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (SEMARNAT) y Vera Rodenhoff, del Ministerio Federal de Medio Ambiente, Protección de la Naturaleza y Seguridad Nuclear de Alemania (BMU) destacaron la importancia de la cooperación entre México y Alemania en materia de cambio climático y biodiversidad. A su turno, Jasmin Fraatz, directora de la Alianza Mexicana-Alemana de Cambio Climático de la Cooperación Alemana al Desarrollo Sustentable (GIZ) dio la bienvenida a los 118 participantes conectados y los incentivó a generar intercambios que permitan optimizar su trabajo diario.

El taller empezó con cuatro ponencias. Por un lado, Yutsil Sangines de la Dirección General de Políticas para el Cambio Climático (DGPCC) de la SEMANART y Andrea Cruz de la Comisión Nacional para el Conocimiento y Uso de la Biodiversidad (CONABIO) disertaron sobre las políticas públicas y las perspectivas del gobierno de México sobre clima y biodiversidad para el 2020.

Por otro, Philipp Behrens y Vera Rodenhoff del BMU se refirieron a las oportunidades de cooperación de la IKI y el gobierno mexicano para el cumplimiento de la Contribución Determinada a Nivel Nacional (NDC, por sus siglas en inglés), así como las proyecciones de colaboración entre México y Alemania en temas de cambio climático y biodiversidad.

Posteriormente, se realizó un panel de discusión donde representantes gubernamentales de México y Alemania trabajaron alrededor de dos disparadores:  ¿Cómo ha apoyado la IKI el cumplimiento y el aumento de la NDC y la Estrategia Nacional sobre Biodiversidad de México (ENBioMex)? y ¿Cuáles son las expectativas de la colaboración con proyectos IKI hacia el futuro? De la dinámica participaron las  Secretarías de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (SEMARNAT), de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural (SADER), de Desarrollo Agrario, Territorial y Urbano (SEDATU), de Turismo (SECTUR); la Comisión Nacional para el Conocimiento y Uso de la Biodiversidad (CONABIO); la Comisión Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas (CONANP); el Instituto Nacional de Ecología y Cambio Climático (INECC) y de parte del gobierno alemán el BMU.

Tras el intercambio, Claudia Kirschning, asesora de la interfaz IKI, explicó el panorama de la interfaz IKI en México y detalló que actualmente se están implementando 36 proyectos en el país (20 de mitigación, 8 de biodiversidad, 4 de adaptación y 4 de REDD+). Asimismo, 20 organizaciones implementadoras y 32 contrapartes del gobierno mexicano están colaborando para lograr las metas climáticas y de biodiversidad. Además, recordó los canales de comunicación: el blog IKI Alliance, el Twitter y el boletín trimestral.

En una segunda parte del taller, los encargados de los proyectos IKI se dividieron en grupos de trabajo para intercambiar conocimientos y crear acuerdos que permitan una mayor sinergia entre las distintas iniciativas. Las temáticas que se trataron fueron: Sector privado; Desarrollo Urbano Sostenible; Agricultura; Adaptación; Biodiversidad/REDD; Financiamiento; Transparencia/MRV y Mitigación/energía.

Después de la presentación en plenaria, Jasmin Fraatz agradeció la participación de los asistentes en este nuevo formato digital y adelantó que se prevé la relación de una versión presencial del evento más adelante.

In a novel virtual format, representatives of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) projects in Mexico, alongside their Mexican government counterparts, exchanged knowledge and established links in the fourth exchange workshop, which took place on Thursday 19th March 2020.

Rodolfo Godínez, head of the Coordinating Unit for International Affairs (UCAI) at the Mexican Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) and Vera Rodenhoff, from Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), highlighted the importance of cooperation between Mexico and Germany in matters of climate change and biodiversity. Subsequently, Jasmin Fraatz, director of the Mexican-German Climate Change Alliance of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, welcomed the 118 online participants and encouraged them to generate exchanges that could optimize their everyday work.

 

The workshop started with four speakers. First, Yutsil Sangines from the General Directorate of Climate Change Policies (DGPCC) at SEMANART and Andrea Cruz from the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO) discussed Mexican public policies and government perspectives on climate and biodiversity for 2020.

Next, Philipp Behrens y Vera Rodenhoff from the BMU talked about the cooperation opportunities between IKI and the Mexican government for achieving the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), as well as collaborative projections between Mexico and Germany on the topics of climate change and biodiversity.

 

Afterwards, there was a panel discussion in which Mexican and German government representatives addressed two main questions: How has IKI supported the implementation and ambition raising of the NDC and the National Biodiversity Strategy of Mexico (ENBioMex)? And: What are the expectations  regarding the collaboration with IKI projects in the future? Participating in the exercise were the Ministries of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT); Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER); Agricultural, Territorial and Urban Development (SEDATU); and Tourism (SECTUR); the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO); the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP); the National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change (INECC); and the BMU representing the German government.

After the exchange, Claudia Kirschning, IKI interface advisor, gave an overview of the IKI interface in Mexico, explaining that 36 projects are currently being implemented in the country (20 related to mitigation, 8 to biodiversity, 4 to adaptation, and 4 REDD+ projects). In addition, 20 implementing organizations and 32 Mexican government counterparts are collaborating to achieve climate and biodiversity targets. She also highlighted the IKI communication channels, including the IKI Alliance blog, Twitter, and the quarterly newsletter.

In the second part of the workshop, IKI project leaders divided into working groups to exchange knowledge and reach agreements that will help support an increased synergy among the different initiatives. The topics covered were: private sector, sustainable urban development, agriculture, adaptation, biodiversity/REDD+, financing, transparency/MRV, and  mitigation/energy.

After the plenary session, Jasmin Fraatz thanked attendees for participating in this new digital format and announced that a face-to-face version of the event would take place in the future.
