SOLAR PAYBACK Solar Heat for Industry

Implementing organization: WRI    Duration: 01/2016 - 12/2019 Main counterpart: ANES, CAMEXA, SENER IKI area: Mitigación

Solar thermal systems provide heat for industrial processes and have the potential to reduce the carbon footprint of the textile, food, beverage, paper, and chemical industries. The project aims to increase the use of these systems in Brazil, India, Mexico, and South Africa, countries where the required technology is economically viable, but information gaps, lack of experience, and other barriers hinder its commercialization.

The project partners, together with local chambers and associations, follow a multiplier approach to support policymakers, project developers, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in understanding the techno-commercial potential of this technology and its subsequent adoption. The development of business and financing models through energy service companies (ESCOs) and financial institutions, as well as reference systems, will further improve the viability of the technology. Policymakers will be enabled to improve the framework for its effective adoption.
