Rehabilitation of forest landscapes using cost-effective measures for adaptation and mitigation strategies.

Implementing organization: IUCN Switzerland    Duration: 11/2015 - 10/2018 Main counterpart: CONABIO, CONAFOR IKI area: Carbon sinks

Initial situation

The rehabilitation of forest ecosystems – in a socially and ecologically compatible way and at a larger landscape scale – can provide a bridge while maximizing co-benefits for communities and biodiversity. This project will test pilot initiatives to optimize the implementation of actions that simultaneously contribute to both land-based mitigation and adaptation strategies through the rehabilitation of forest ecosystems at landscape scale.

This objective will be achieved through:

1) the identification of “best bets” to optimize the coherent implementation of land-based mitigation and adaptation strategies;

2) support for the development of national policies and programmes that integrate the “best bets”; and

3) stimulating the engagement of decision-makers and investors through global analysis, networking, and policy influence.
