Companies can make a significant contribution to reversing the causes of biodiversity loss. Over the last decade, private sector investment in biodiversity protection has steadily increased. The aim of the project is to identify, understand, systematize and elaborate existing funding approaches (mechanisms and instruments) to promote biodiversity-friendly production and marketing. As part of the project strategy, fundings should be modelled in three partner countries. Promising approaches as well as existing experiences, initiatives, mechanisms, instruments and needs of the private sector are identified, analyzed and systematized in selected economic sectors (in particular agriculture, tourism, crafts, fisheries, food). On the basis of a scoping phase (up to 18 months after the start of the project), the strategy of the project is further developed in cooperation with the partner countries. In the three partner countries, promising initiatives to promote biodiversity-friendly production and marketing are selected and tested.
