Multilevel governance and landscape-scale carbon management

Initial situation 

The overall objective is to ensure that policymakers and REDD+ practitioners in the target countries make informed decisions based on scientific knowledge, information, analyses, and tools that contribute to the effective and efficient reduction of carbon emissions with equitable impacts, poverty reduction, biodiversity conservation, and livelihood co-benefits. Complementing CIFOR’s Global Comparative Study on REDD+ at the national and project levels, the project will focus on REDD+ at the landscape scale. Policy lessons will be generated from high-quality research on multilevel governance, land-use decisions, and carbon trade-offs at the landscape level. The emphasis on multiple levels of government and landscapes—where policy meets practice on the ground—addresses existing scientific gaps that urgently need to be filled in order to guide and inform REDD+ implementation, carbon emissions reduction strategies, and related adaptation options across different decision-making spheres.
