Morgenstadt Global Smart Cities Initiative: Global Approach – Local Solutions

Implementing organization: Universidad de Stuttgart    Duration: 12/2018 - 06/2023 Main counterpart: IMPLAN Saltillo, ITESM IKI area: Adaptation

Initial situation

Smart and sustainable urban development is key to addressing some of the most urgent global challenges, such as climate change mitigation and adaptation and improving resource efficiency. However, sector-based approaches to sustainable urban development have led to diverging assessments of investment priorities and local needs. This initiative develops integrated strategies and roadmaps for sustainable urban development through “City Labs” in selected pilot cities.

The objective is to generate replicable and viable solutions and strategies using German technologies in pilot cities, based on an analysis of local development needs. Local partners receive support through knowledge exchange within the international Morgenstadt: City Insights innovation network, while their capacity to address sustainability challenges is strengthened through targeted capacity-building activities in pilot cities in India, Mexico, and Peru.
