Mexico City shares its climate finances tools<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A series of four regional workshops comes to an end with great success. All in all, these workshops have brought together a total of 30 federal Mexican states in order to \u00a0identify paths to include their climate actions into the NDC, share experiences and create synergies between regions and states.<\/p>\n

The fourth regional workshop \u201cStrengthening Subnational Capacities and Impacts on the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)\u201d was held with the aim of strengthening \u00a0participation of subnational governments in achieving Mexico\u2019s climate goals as stated in \u00a0the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) within the Paris Agreement. This workshop is the last of a series of four, \u00a0supported by the Mexican Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT<\/a>),and the Deutsche Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Internationale Zusammenarbeit<\/em> (GIZ<\/a>) GmbH, and took place on 24th<\/sup> and 25th<\/sup> of January in Mexico City.<\/p>\n

The workshop achieved the highest level of participation and counted with the presence of 16 Mexican states: Mexico City, Chiapas, Coahuila, Durango, State of Mexico, Hidalgo, Morelos, Nayarit, Nuevo Leon, Tlaxcala, Guerrero, and Veracruz. Moreover, Chihuahua, Michoacan, Queretaro and San Luis Potosi participated on repeated occasion.<\/p>\n

During two days, the attendees participated in presentations and dynamics regarding the main implications for subnational governments aimed at contributing to the NDC, which included guidelines for the design of mitigation and adaptation measures. Furthermore, \u00a0shared case studies about the implementation of MRV (monitoring, reporting and verification) systems \u00a0as well as innovative finance tools from Morelos, Hidalgo, Mexico City and the State of Mexico were presented.<\/p>\n

In summary, the four workshops counted with a total of 193 participants, assuring the presence of representatives from \u00a030 federative entities, municipalities, academy and civil society. Furthermore, 25 success climate cases were shared. Among the main outcomes were the opportunities to define a mechanism aimed at reporting state and municipal contributions. Participants highlighted the need to keep promoting information exchanges about the design, finance and follow up of climate change measures in coordination with other government levels and interested actors.<\/p>\n

In order to continue these efforts, regional roadmaps and national recommendations will be launched to define how \u00a0subnational levels will contribute to accomplish the NDC. This will allow for following up on challenges and lessons learned, which participants discussed during the workshops.<\/p>\n
