{"id":22730,"date":"2020-03-20T20:00:51","date_gmt":"2020-03-21T02:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iki-alliance.mx\/?p=22730"},"modified":"2020-10-19T15:02:58","modified_gmt":"2020-10-19T20:02:58","slug":"fourth-exchange-workshop-for-iki-projects-in-mexico-with-record-attendance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iki-alliance.mx\/en\/fourth-exchange-workshop-for-iki-projects-in-mexico-with-record-attendance\/","title":{"rendered":"Fourth Exchange Workshop for IKI Projects In Mexico with record attendance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a novel virtual format, representatives of the International Climate Initiative (<a href=\"https:\/\/iki-alliance.mx\/en\/\">IKI<\/a>) projects in Mexico, alongside their Mexican government counterparts, exchanged knowledge and established links in the <strong>fourth exchange workshop<\/strong>, which took place on Thursday 19th March 2020.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rodolfo God\u00ednez<\/strong>, head of the Coordinating Unit for International Affairs (UCAI) at the Mexican Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.mx\/semarnat\">SEMARNAT<\/a>) and\u00a0<strong>Vera Rodenhoff<\/strong>, from Germany&#8217;s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmu.de\/en\/https:\/\/www.bmu.de\/en\/\">BMU<\/a>), highlighted the importance of cooperation between Mexico and Germany in matters of climate change and biodiversity. First, Yutsil Sangines\u00a0from the General Directorate of Climate Change Policies (DGPCC) at SEMANART and\u00a0Andrea Cruz\u00a0from the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.mx\/conabio\">CONABIO<\/a>) discussed Mexican public policies and government perspectives on climate and biodiversity for 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Next,\u00a0Philipp Behrens\u00a0y\u00a0Vera Rodenhoff\u00a0from the BMU talked about the cooperation opportunities between IKI and the Mexican government for achieving the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), as well as collaborative projections between Mexico and Germany on the topics of climate change and biodiversity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"es\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ikialliance?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ikialliance<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iki_bmu?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@iki_bmu<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IKI_Mexico?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@IKI_Mexico<\/a> evento digital. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/phd8tiiuaf\">pic.twitter.com\/phd8tiiuaf<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2014 GabrielaN (@GabyNino80) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GabyNino80\/status\/1240663137554227202?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 19, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, there was a panel discussion in which Mexican and German government representatives addressed two main questions: <strong>How has IKI supported the implementation and ambition raising of the NDC and the National Biodiversity Strategy of Mexico (ENBioMex)?<\/strong> And: <strong>What are the expectations\u00a0 regarding the collaboration with IKI projects in the future?<\/strong> Participating in the exercise were the Ministries of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT); Agriculture and Rural Development (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.mx\/agricultura\">SADER<\/a>); Agricultural, Territorial and Urban Development (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.mx\/sedatu\">SEDATU<\/a>); and Tourism (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.mx\/sectur\/\">SECTUR<\/a>); the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.mx\/conabio\">CONABIO<\/a>); the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.mx\/conanp\">CONANP<\/a>); the National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.mx\/inecc\">INECC<\/a>); and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmu.de\/en\/\">BMU<\/a> representing the German government.<\/p>\n<p>After the exchange,\u00a0Claudia Kirschning, IKI interface advisor, gave an overview of the IKI interface in Mexico, explaining that 36 projects are currently being implemented in the country (20 related to mitigation, 8 to biodiversity, 4 to adaptation, and 4 REDD+ projects). In addition, 20 implementing organizations and 32 Mexican government counterparts are collaborating to achieve climate and biodiversity targets.
