Initial situation
The project strengthened the management of protected areas by providing equipment and carrying out environmental communication activities. It also provided training on surveillance and fire control, as well as on the sustainable use of resources, with particular emphasis on fisheries, livestock farming, and agriculture. To improve cooperation among key stakeholders, coordination workshops were organized with municipalities, local interest groups, and CONANP.
Objectives
Promote the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of five areas of national and international importance, with particular emphasis on climate change prevention and adaptation, as well as the preservation of biodiversity.
Activities
- Procurement of equipment worth approximately one-third of the total funding volume. This made it possible to develop solid infrastructure in the selected protected areas and facilitate both the mobility and communication of CONANP staff.
- Implementation of communication campaigns focused on raising awareness among target audiences.
- Training and equipment for fire brigades.
- Strengthening the knowledge base for future management activities in the participating protected areas and implementation of a monitoring system capable of detecting changes in vegetation cover.
- Development of pilot examples for planning the sustainable use of resources in protected areas.
