Implementation of NAMA Housing in Mexico

Initial situation 

The project supports the implementation of the sustainable housing NAMA (Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions – NAMA) in two ways:

1) it promotes the uptake of efficiency standards across the entire new housing market through technical assistance for major public housing financiers and private developers, as well as financial incentives for small and medium-sized developers and financial intermediaries.

2) In addition, the project promotes the improvement of energy efficiency standards and therefore contributes significantly to the sustainable transformation of the residential housing sector, where ambitious energy efficiency technologies have entered the market.

The project also generates important co-benefits beyond reducing greenhouse gas emissions, such as improved comfort and living conditions for residents, lower fiscal expenditure on energy subsidies, and growth and technological progress in the construction sector. The financial cooperation component of this project is expected to mobilize EUR 80 to 120 million in private investment for the construction of low-carbon homes over the seven-year implementation period.
