On April 10, the government of Jalisco, represented by the Ministry of the Environment and Territorial Development (SEMADET<\/a>) and the state\u2019s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER<\/a>), made an agreement with the Deutsche Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ<\/a>) GmbH<\/em> Mexico and the French Development Agency (AFD<\/a>) to create the Working Group for preparation of the State Strategy for the Mainstreaming of Biodiversity into the Agricultural Sector. Through this Strategy, Jalisco will have a tool that will help it to harmonize public policies for the conservation and sustainable use of the state\u2019s biodiversity.<\/p>\n

The Working Group will be responsible for carrying out a diagnosis of the legal and regulatory framework, as well as creating planning instruments for the state\u2019s agricultural and forestry sectors. The instruments will aim to recognize the opportunities for integrating the sustainable use of biodiversity in each sector. In addition, key actors will be identified to participate in a series of workshops throughout the year. In these workshops, the strategy\u2019s lines of action and indicators will be structured in a participatory manner. The initiatives supporting the Jalisco government in this task include GIZ<\/a> Mexico\u2019s Mainstreaming Biodiversity into the Mexican Agricultural Sector (IKI-IBA<\/a>) Project, which is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI<\/a>) of Germany\u2019s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU<\/a>), and AFD<\/a>\u2019s Biocultural Landscape<\/a> Project.<\/p>\n
