Objective and Activities

The aim of the programme is to build and strengthen capacities in participating countries in order to advance climate action. Since its inception in 2011, the programme has focused on strengthening greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory systems for more accurate and transparent climate data, developing Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS), and developing and implementing sectoral mitigation activities in select private and public spheres. To this end, customized advisory services have been agreed upon and complemented with global and regional networking and advisory options, technical workshops and trainings. Shared challenges have been discussed at global conferences and integrated into specialist publications. In response to emerging needs of the partner countries, program pathways and institutional arrangements were used to support the development of Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) submissions in the lead up to the 2015 Paris Accord and, subsequently, in the planning for the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
