With the entry into force of the Paris Agreement in 2015, the Parties undertook to comply with their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Mexico ratified its NDC in 2016, which integrates both mitigation commitments of compunds and greenhouse gases and adaptation to climate change for the period 2020-2030.

To achieve the commitments framed in the NDC, the states and municipalities have a key role, because their actions directly impact their populations and notably the causes and effects of climate change materialize within their territories. This capsule seeks to guide actors at the subnational levels that influence climate change issues in identifying and developing measures within their jurisdictions that contribute to the achievement of the NDC, as well as inviting them to share their experiences.
